Social analysis and modelling skills are valuable to many organisations as organisational complexity has a greater affect on IT project performance (e.g. budget, schedule, functionality, user satisfaction) than technical complexity. I have developed or extended state-of-the-art approaches that enable organisations to understand:
- why the systems they have deployed have not been adopted or used as intended
- how systems may be ‘better’ deployed.
As a researcher I have worked with a multi-national systems engineering firm to help them understand why systems they have deployed have not been adopted or used as intended. I have also worked with a north sea oil & gas technology solutions organisation to help them understand the socio-technical risks associated with deploying their services to cloud based infrastructures.
My research expertise comprises social analysis and modelling for systems engineering. Our methodology comprises ethnography and more recently social network analysis.
